World Environment Day at Le Jadis: A Lasting Commitment to Our Island and Planet

Each year, World Environment Day serves as a reminder of our collective responsibility to safeguard the natural world. Established by the United Nations in 1972, this global observance calls on individuals, communities, and industries to reflect on their impact and renew their commitment to sustainability.

At Le Jadis Beach Resort & Wellness, World Environment Day holds particular meaning. Nestled on the shores of Turtle Bay, we are daily witnesses to the beauty—and fragility—of the Mauritian landscape. As an island nation, Mauritius is especially vulnerable to the effects of climate change, from rising sea levels to water scarcity. The need to protect and preserve our environment is not abstract—it is urgent and deeply personal.

Building for Tomorrow

Le Jadis was designed from the ground up with environmental stewardship in mind. Our concept of conscious luxury guides every aspect of the resort, blending refined hospitality with intelligent, sustainable practices that support both people and planet.

Among our key initiatives:

  • In-House Desalination & Bottling System
Our private desalination plant allows us to convert seawater into drinking water through reverse osmosis. Half of the treated water is bottled in-house, while the other half is used in hotel operations—significantly reducing our demand on public water supplies and eliminating the need for single-use plastic bottles.

  • Solar Water Heating
Solar panels heat water in our suites and villas. Conventional water boilers are gradually being replaced, reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and promoting renewable energy use.

  • Smart Energy Management
Energy-saving sensors in restrooms, wardrobes, and kitchens help reduce unnecessary consumption. Air-conditioning systems automatically switch off when doors remain open, while LED and solar lighting reduce our overall energy footprint.

  • Greywater Irrigation
Treated greywater is reused to irrigate our lush gardens. This not only conserves fresh water, especially valuable during Mauritius’ dry season, but also limits wastewater discharge into the environment.

  • Native Landscaping & Composting
Our resort grounds are home to a rich variety of indigenous plants, chosen for their natural resilience and minimal watering needs. A composting system supports healthy soil, allowing our gardens to flourish without artificial fertilisers.

A Personal Responsibility

World Environment Day is not only an international campaign—it is a call for each of us to examine how we live and what legacy we leave behind. At Le Jadis, we take this message to heart. Our sustainability efforts are ongoing, thoughtful, and integrated into the guest experience in ways that are discreet yet effective.

As we honour this day, we invite our guests to reflect on the natural beauty of Mauritius and consider how every small act of care contributes to a larger impact. Protecting our environment is not just an obligation—it is an investment in our shared future.
