Celebrating Mauritius Independence Day at Le Jadis

Every year on March 12th, Mauritius celebrates its Independence Day—a day to remember where the island has been and feel good about where it’s going. This year at Le Jadis Beach Resort & Wellness, we kept things simple and heartfelt, gathering by the pool with guests and team members to mark the occasion together.

Up Goes the Flag

The morning kicked off under a beautiful blue sky. By the poolside, a small crowd gathered as the Mauritian quadricolor was raised nice and slow. For a minute, everyone went quiet, watching the flag climb the mast. Then came the national anthem, sung by voices from all corners of the resort. It wasn’t a long ceremony, and it wasn’t fancy—just a genuine moment that reminded everyone why this little island in the Indian Ocean is so special.

The Quiet Before the Party

There’s something nice about that hush right before a celebration starts. For just a moment, everyone—staff and guests alike—stood still together, thinking their own thoughts. Then the anthem broke the silence, and just like that, the party began.

And Then, Cake

Because what’s a birthday without cake?

The resort’s culinary team had outdone themselves with a beautiful creation decorated in the colours of the Mauritian flag—red, blue, yellow, and green. As slices were handed out, the poolside area came alive with chatter and laughter. Guests chatted with staff about their favourite spots on the island. Kids ran around with icing on their faces. Cameras came out to capture the moment. It was relaxed, it was happy, and it felt exactly like a neighbourhood get-together—just with a much better view.

A Little Taste of Local Life

Here’s the thing about staying at a nice resort—you get the beautiful beaches, the fancy cocktails, the comfortable rooms. But moments like this? They’re different. They give visitors a small window into what makes Mauritius tick. For the guests who joined us that morning, it wasn’t about being tourists watching a show. It felt more like being invited to a family gathering where everyone’s welcome.

The Accidental Insider

Some of the best travel moments are the ones you don’t plan. Guests who just happened to be by the pool that morning found themselves unexpectedly part of something local and real. No tour guide needed—just good timing and a shared moment.

Keeping It Real

At Le Jadis, we don’t do stiff ceremonies or forced performances. What you saw by the pool that morning was exactly what you’d see at a Mauritian family gathering—just with more hotel guests and better cake. Our team genuinely enjoys sharing these traditions, and it shows. No scripts, no rehearsals. Just people celebrating where they’re from and inviting others to join in.

As the morning stretched on, no one was in a hurry to leave. Conversations drifted from topic to topic. Photos were snapped. A few guests mentioned how nice it was to be included in something that felt authentic, not staged for a brochure. Because honestly? The best moments are the ones you share.

And on this particular morning, surrounded by new friends, good cake, and the colours of the Mauritian flag, it felt like exactly the right way to celebrate.

Hip hip hip… hooray.
